5 Promising rookies in the DPC

Let’s take a look at some of the most promising rookies currently playing in the Dota Pro Circuit right now.

Most of us are familiar with names like Kuroky, Sumail, Abed, Burning and IceIceIce. But even amazing players like these had to start somewhere. At one time these players too were seen as rookies trying to compete with those who came before them and even with ten years of Dota 2 behind us, new rookies keep emerging from the trenches. Which one of these rookies has the potential to rise to the position of Dota 2 legends?

Crystallis – The no-nonsense carry

Hailing from the small country of The Netherlands, Crystallis is shaking up the collective image for what a carry should look like, for this player is nothing like the hot-headed carry players of the past. Instead he is known for his calm demeanor and no-nonsense attitude. A very useful quality to have when the pressure mounts when carrying your team to the win.

Being only nineteen years old, Remco “Crystallis” Arets is already showing much promise. Not only by having reached sixth place in the EU MMR leaderboard, but also being second place in EU’s lower DPC division with his team Creepwave. All that while playing from his parents home with his younger siblings screaming right behind him.

GPK – The New Dendi

Sharing his first name with the Dota 2’s most recognizable player Dendi, Danil “GPK” Skutin is a master of the middle lane. Currently number four on the EU MMR Leaderboard and Number one in the CIS DPC Upper Division, this player is both a competitive top contender and a pub star. GPK is able to outlane any opponent in the mid lane, showing off his mechanical mastery in the process.

While handling some of Dota 2’s most demanding heroes like Ember Spirit and Invoker, this player is on a fast track to the next International. Recently being promoted from Virtus Pro’s Prodigy squad to the main team and trashing every other CIS team, nothing seems to be in this nineteen year old’s way. Now he just needs to start dancing in front of the play booth and we can really call him the new Dendi.

JT- – Too big for SEA

Malaysia has already brought us a whole host of amazing Dota 2 players and their latest export of Thiay Jun “JT” Wen has some great potential for legendhood, quickly rising through the South East Asian ranks and getting picked up by Mineski back in 2019. Seeing that he could reach so much more he went over to China and joined Invictus Gaming instead, promptly making the team into a chinese powerhouse getting third place in the MDL Chengdu Major and Dreamleague Season 13.

While results might have been a little bit off during late 2020, with the new DPC, JT- seems to have found his way once again. Providing a rock solid base for his team, this offlane prodigy has played a great part in getting his team the 3-0 start it currently has. So watch out for his amazing Legion Commander as she just might duel you next.

ocean – The Red Blooded American

American talent can be hard to find, especially talent with a good attitude. However with ocean, we might have found our needle in the haystack of North American Dota 2. Making a name for himself back in late 2019 by suddenly playing like a god on earth in Demon Slayers. His team managed to land a second place placement during Dreamleague season 12.

Afterwards he would eventually find himself a spot in 4 Zoomers, the most american team in North America. Still trying to reach the top in beating teams like Quincy Crew and Evil Geniuses, Jacob “ocean” Gosen is getting closer everyday.

Seleri – Vegan Power

Never say hard work doesn’t get you anything. As Melchior “Seleri” Hillenkamp has been fighting in the European Tier 2 and Tier 3 trenches since 2015. Never quite reaching the top, playing with a grand collection of different players. This proud Vegan has been trying to come out on top for so long, and now he might have finally struck gold with his team Vikin.GG.

Playing in the upper division against teams like OG and Team Secret he might be finally home. Even reaching 10K MMR as a position 5 player back in december. Often boasting about his vegan lifestyle to explain his amazing skill, there might be a great future ahead of this twenty one year old dutchie
