5 Things we’d like to see in League of Legends Arcane

As apart of Riot Games’ ambitious expansion past their world renowned MOBA, the company is undertaking their first animated series. Though no stranger to the world of animation, with countless lore and music videos, this is the first story-driven series for Riot.

With video games increasingly being integrated into other forms of media, namely the recent Dota 2 series, Riot must feel immense pressure from the fans to get this series right. These are the five things that we think would appease the fans and make for an interesting debut series.

Viktor’s transformation and his feud with Jayce

Many players only know the champion Viktor as the mechanized control mage in the middle lane. In the game’s extensive lore, the inventor from Zaun has a long standing feud with Hextech’s poster boy, Jayce. Players will finally get to experience first-hand the backstory behind many characters, including Viktor.

Fleshing out this story will give players a new perspective of both characters. A main plot point of Arcane seems to be the class divide between Piltover and Zaun. The rivalry between these two is likely to drive this narrative, given that they are from vastly different sides of the city.

Champion cameos

Though plenty of playable characters from League of Legends are already taking the center stage, there is plenty of room for other cameos. The setting of Piltover and Zaun leans itself to featuring plenty of champions outside of the main cast involving Vi, Jinx, Jayce, and more.

Featured in the trailer, Heimerdinger is likely to play a role in the story to some extent. Notable Piltover and Zaun denizens not explicit featured thus far in any trailer includes Camille,  Ekko, Ezreal and more. This list only expects that champions from these twin cities will make an appearance. Any of the other regions, such as Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, the Shadow Isles or more could also play a role.

A new playable Champion

Long before the release of Arcane, Riot Games hinted at a new ADC from Zaun. This new animated series, undoubtedly garnering the attention of both current and past League of Legends fans, would be the perfect time to debut this champion.

RiotX Arcane, the month long celebration of this new series, has promised integration across their Runeterra titles, including the longstanding MOBA. It is not unreasonable to think that we could be getting one new champion (perhaps more) out of this series.

World building for Runeterra

League of Legends has often flirted with the idea of world building and expanding upon their lore, but has never truly committed to it. A large majority of LoL players enter Summoner’s Rift daily without knowing the backstories of their favorite champions or the pre-tenses of the game.

Arcane will be the first major world building effort as we will get to experience our first narrative driven experience in Runeterra. Especially as Riot ramps up to release their long anticipated MMO based in the same universe, Arcane should provide an opportunity to hook fans into the grander world of Runeterra.

Vi and Jinx – Make the leads strong

The primary focus of every trailer for Arcane has revolved around Vi and Jinx. The story of these two sisters is set to take center stage with a backdrop of class conflict, a rapidly changing environment, and other themes. With so many characters and environments to flesh out, it is important to make sure that the two main characters stay the focal point and lens through which we view Arcane.
