Dota 2: The International 10 to have over $40 million prize pool

The prize pool for The International 10 has reached an historic amount of 40 million dollars, which is even more than the prize pool of last year despite worries over COVID-19. The International 10 will now also be the esports event with the biggest prize pool to ever take place.

For quite a while it looked like they wouldn’t clear the 40 million dollar mark, being 45.000 dollar short with only two more hours to go, but thanks to a lot of last-minute purchases the 40 million mark was reached. To aid the scene in reaching the historic number, Valve also added extensions and more content to this year’s battle pass, giving players more incentive to contribute and leading to increased sales.

Thanks to reaching the historic milestone The International 10 also surpassed the amount of prize money it was able to offer last year, which was upwards of 35 million dollars. It’s still not clear when The International 10 will take place, as the tournament was postponed alongside the DPC (Dota Pro Circuit) due to dangers posed by COVID-19. There’s a big chance that The International 10 won’t happen until the summer of 2021.

In a blog post Valve also released the results of the TI 10 Arcana vote. “This year the community cast millions of votes for two of the purplest heroes in the Dota 2 pool, Faceless Void and Spectre and with a split of 27,475,258 votes to 24,948,538, this year’s Arcana winner is: Spectre. The team will set out to design an Arcana befitting Mercurial, the Spectre, channeling her dark energy into forms heretofore unimagined.“
