It has been several months since India’s government banned PUBG Mobile. PUBG Mobile’s parent company Krafton has now launched a concerted effort to return their mobile gaming jewel to India.
Although PUBG Mobile was the largest game in India by far it did not save them from the wave of bans amidst political tensions between China and India. Now the PUBG Corporation is preparing for a grand return to India.
Not surprising to see PUBG Corp take this route.
PUBG Mobile was the #1 grossing mobile game in India, and its ban was felt by both the developers and players.
This new custom version will aim to satisfy regulators, but it remains to be seen if this will be enough. https://t.co/uQDc2qK5B5
To alleviate the concerns of the Indian government in regards to data security PUBG’s parent company Krafton has recently signed a deal with Microsoft Azure for their servers. In the future the servers containing PUBG Mobile’s data will be within India itself.
The custom version of the mobile game will be titled PUBG Mobile India and also feature specific adjustments for the Indian market. Besides the data security issues the new PUBG Mobile will try to address concerns regarding violence and addiction by introducing green blood and limits on playtimes among other functions. Ironically these features are all present in the Chinese version of PUBG Mobile, which might have just been ported to India.
The PUBG Corporation will also invest $100 million US-Dollar to strengthen the Indian esport scene and ecosystem. They also announced creating over 100 jobs in India in their statement. Recognizing the importance of the Indian community, PUBG is going to host exclusive Indian events.
As of now it is still unclear if the new adjustments will satisfy the Indian regulators. We will keep you updated on further developments.
