FunPlus Phoenix and Team Spirit to face off in Finals DreamHack Open January

A good start for the new roster of FunPlus Phoenix, as they managed to reach the Grand Final DreamHack Open January. Team Spirit finds themselves on the other side of the matchup, after a big upset.

Things didn’t start out as great for FunPlus Phoenix following a loss to Evil Geniuses in the opening match, sending them to the elimination match. The new roster pushed through against HellRaisers however, and once again faced Evil Geniuses in the decider match. This time things went the way of FunPlus Phoenix with very convincing 16-3 (Nuke) and 16-8 (Vertigo) scores. In the semifinals they eliminated Gambit Esports in a tough match. After winning Inferno convincingly it looked like FunPlus Phoenix lost their momentum following a 16-2 loss on Overpass. They recovered on Train however and qualified for the finals.

Finally, we stand on the stage of the #DHOpen Grand Final.

Team Spirit on the other hand won their opening match against Sprout, but would go on to lose their Winner’s match against Gambit Esports. They found themselves up against sprout in the Decider match, which saw multiple overtimes on Train. Eventually Team Spirit pulled through by winning Nuke and Dust II. In the semifinals Spirit managed to upset BIG, who looked like early winners after a win on Inferno. Spirit fought back and won Nuke and Dust II (after overtime), landing them a finals spot against FunPlus Phoenix.

The final will take place later today at 16:00 in the afternoon. The winner takes home $35.000 in prize money and 100 Pro Tour points.
