BLAST to allow coaches for CS:GO teams during their online events

Even though Valve has made a ruling for their events following some recent events, BLAST will go ahead and allow coaches to communicate with their teams for their online competitions.

When it comes to Regional Major Ranking (RMR) events, Valve stated last week that teams will no longer be able to have coaches in the room during online events. The decision was made following the coaching bug scandal and multiple cases of stream sniping. Teams, players and coaches didn’t respond well to the news as the community found itself in an uproar, but now BLAST said they’ll allow coaches to do their job at their online events.

In a statement they’ve made to Twitter, BLASTcommissioner Andrew Haworth talked a little more about their decision to allow coaches. “We believe that the mechanisms we have in place enable us to listen and observe coaches actions when they are on the server and in the room with the players, which gives us greater oversight of competitive integrity by being able to directly monitor actions in realtime and have information to review post event is any concerns are raised.”

According to BLAST, coaches are a key part of CS:GO and they don’t want to take that away from the teams and players. “We feel that coaches provide a vital role in the professionalism of esports, improving quality of play and team performance.”
