BLAST Premier Spring: BIG win group A, defeat Astralis and Ninjas in Pyjamas
An exciting finish in group A of BLAST Premier Spring 2021, as BIG shows they’re still in it to win it all.
Group A brought quite a bit of surprises, not in the least the lacklustre performance of superteam Astralis, but also Ninjas in Pyjamas and BIG stepping up. The group stage kicked off with Ninjas in Pyjamas sending Astralis to the lower bracket following two 16-3 wins on Overpass and Inferno, only to meet BIG in the upper bracket finals. BIG defeated OG prior to their meeting with Ninjas in Pyjamas but fell to their Swedish opponents.
In the lower bracket Astralis saved themselves by defeating OG on a heavily contested Dust II map with 19-16 and a short 16-6 stop on Inferno. They’d go on to meet BIG in the lower bracket Final but they were once again defeated with 2-0 as BIG was primed for a rematch with Ninjas in Pyjamas. That final was dominated by BIG, taking Vertigo 16-2 and leaving no room for NiP. Overpass was a much tighter affair, but BIG pulled through with a close 16-14 win to win group A. BIG especially saw big performances out of Florian “syrsoN” Rische and Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz.
This results means both BIG and Ninjas in Pyjamas qualify for the Spring Finals while bot OG and Astralis move on to the Spring Showdown, where they could potentially still earn themselves a seed in the Spring Finals.
