Sentinels crown themselves NA’s first regional champion

In a rematch with FaZe, Sentinel repeated their incredible performance to win the first NA Masters event of the VCT.

FaZe and Sentinels met once again in the grand finals, though ended with the result as Sentinels swept the series for the second time. FaZe put up much more of a fight in game one than the entirety of their previous series and gave a promising start on the first map, Ascent, where they led 8-4. Despite Babybay’s best efforts to will his team into a victory, dropping 27 total frags and averaging 1.13 KPR, Sentinels ultimately claimed the first map 13-11.

After closing out the most competitive game of the series, Sentinels followed by taking FaZe’s map pick of Bind 13-7. Sentinels maintained a healthy lead throughout this map, at their beast FaZe could only string together a 3 round winstreak on defender side though still fell.

Though often finding unmatched success by playing through their duelists, this time the longtime Cypher of the squad, Dapr, massively impacted the course of this map. Ending the map with 25 kills, 180 ADR, and 1.25 KPR, this map further proved the sheer depth of Sentinel’s talent pool by showing any member is capable of topfragging and carrying.

On the verge of being swept, FaZe fell back on their old but unreliable strategy of flashing and dashing points. Their triple flash composition with Babybay once again acting as it’s centerpiece fell flat, leaving the first half trailing 10-2. At this point, it was far too late to turn around their strategy as the conjoined efforts of Sentinels ended the game 13-4.

Taking the top spot in North America, Sentinels dropped but only one map throughout the entirety of the tournament. Entering into Masters with a new look, many predicted Sentinels would have a boom-or-bust performance. Looking better than ever, it seems Sentinels elected for the latter.
