Valve makes changes to VAC ban ruling, allow VAC banned players to still compete

Valve decided to change up their ruling on VAC bans, which up until now saw any players with a VAC ban on their account unable to participate in events by Valve.

In a blog post made to the Counter-Strike website, Valve shared some of the changes they are making regarding RMR eligibility, which features changes to the VAC ban system. “Moving forward, a VAC ban will only disqualify a player from an event if it was either received less than 5 years prior, or if it was received at any time after their first participation in a Valve-sponsored event (e.g., after participating in a qualifier for an RMR event).”

Valve made sure to mention that the update isn’t a ‘get out of jail free card’ as the effects of a VAC ban will remain the same in other areas. “Note that VAC bans stay in place with all of their other effects; the only change is how they influence your eligibility to play in Valve-sponsored events.”

The change might have some big repercussions for some professional players, such as Elias “Jamppi” Olkkonen and Saif “Sayf” Jibraeel, who can now once again participate in events organized by Valve after being barred from them previously. As they decided to make the change to VALORANT earlier this year, the likelihood of them returning to CS:GO isn’t very high.
