Gambit and Heroic claim semi-final spots in DreamHack Masters

The playoff brackets from DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 were determined as the final day of Group play ended.
Heroic win the Danish derby

One of the most anticipated matchups since the two teams were bound to meet, Heroic usurped Astralis’ top spot in a quick two map series.  Most recently losing Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, Astralis’ position as the leading Danish team has been challenged since the start of 2021 and and Heroic’s recent roster changes. Substituting in their near constant 6th man, Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen, into the main roster, this performance made it clear that this new iteration of Astralis has plenty to improve upon.

Taking down Astralis off the bat on their signature Nuke map pick 6-16, Heroic carried this momentum to find the exact finishing score line on Inferno. Rene “TeSeS” Madsen had a near perfect performance as he finished with a 1.98 overall rating off 55 total frags and 126.2 ADR. Hoping to follow BLAST with another title, Heroic will await the winner of Furia vs Navi in the semi-finals.

Gambit win the CIS showdown

Though Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostliev has largely cleaned up his play since the health issues that plagued him earlier in the year, it seems the rest of Navi still needs time to catch up. Though leading the series off an 8-16 Dust2 win, Navi soon fell apart in the later two maps.

Sergey “Ax1Le” Ryhtorov and Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov took turns carrying Gambit across Overpass (16-7) and Mirage (16-13). IEM Katowice MVP, Sh1ro ultimately led Gambit with 56 total frags. Taking the semi-final spot opposite of Heroic, Gambit anticpate facing off against either G2 or Astralis.

Furia triumph in the lower bracket

Following their victory over Complexity, Furia added Vitality to the list of teams they 2-0ed in the group stage. Though all staggering behind Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, the Furia members out fragged and outplayed their Vitality counterparts.
