How to mute text and voice chat in Dota 2

Every Dota player is familiar with the toxicity that can seep through its ingame text and voice chat. Our Seattle overlords however have build a button that can be used to block this out, and today we will learn how to use it.

Get them letters out of here

When the flaming starts the humble text chat often is the first victim. As slurs, insults and other rude words get transported from the rager’s fingertips into the digital world it is you who is forced to watch the cursed letters appear on your screen. If you want to keep your sanity it is important to protect yourself from these infectious words. So open your scoreboard and look for the infection’s source in the form of the raging player. Now locate the big white T button at the end of their name. Simply issue a simple right click and you will see that bandage instantly gets applied as none of their foul remarks will be shown to you anymore.

Just shut the flip up please

While we might have blocked out the letters, a new problem could possibly surface. As the ragers’ anger grows, they might turn towards the voice chat instead of the text chat. Now that his negative discourse has once again reached your brain, now through your ears instead of your eyes, the solution luckily is very similar. Salvation once again can be brought through the scoreboard, but this time we will be looking for the speaker symbol instead. One quick press on it, and the derogatory speech will be blocked. Now that both avenues of attack are closed, you can return to your game. Just in time to see your ancient explode and receive those minus 25 MMR points.
