Three essential Dota 2 mechanics you should master
In its essence, Dota 2 is a game about economy. You attempt to gather more resources than your opponents so that you have the necessary advantages to take them out in direct combat. To collect these resources however, understanding Last Hitting is crucial. Because in the world of Dota 2, a creep’s monetary spoils of war merely goes to the person that delivers the killing blow.
This means that especially in the early game, you want to circle the creeps like a vulture. Only to pounce on them once their HP gets low enough for you to finish them off with one final hit, so that you will see that beautiful yellow number pop up while the gold gets transported to your pockets.
Teleporting
Now that we understand economics, we need to start working on mobility. The humble TP scroll is, in fact, the most powerful ability in the game. Because if you are on the other side of the map, there is no way that ravage will hit if you are not there. The TP scroll is such a versatile item, it has an uncountable amount of uses.
The most important being to join fights by teleporting one the hand. While on the other hand, giving you the ability to escape enemies that have used their disables, by simply double tapping the TP button and appearing safely in your fountain mere seconds later.
Communication
The last of Dota 2’s quirky mechanics is the concept of other people. Many of you basement dwellers reading this might be surprised, but in fact there are other people in this world. And with Dota 2 being a multiplayer game containing ten people per match, you are bound to meet at least some of them.
With people being in the same video game as you, while even being forced to work together with four of them, communication becomes a necessity. Luckily there is tons of literature available about the subtle art of communication, so this is a skill you should be able to learn with both hands bound on your back. Or just take my little tip: Treat others, the same way you would like to be treated.
