G2 Esports announced via Twitter that it has extended Cap’s contract by four years. The Danish midlaner is set to remain contracted to the team until 2025, unless bought out by another organization. This marks the first four-year contract signed in League of Legends esports, as the the maximum year limit was raised this offseason.
G2 Esports has undergone a massive overhaul in its League of Legends roster. After winning four consecutive domestic titles, making a World Finals appearance, and winning MSI, the team failed to execute on the ‘LEC Superteam’ it crafted in the previous offseason. Now, in the fallout of one G2’s worst seasons on record, the team has made massive changes though have found stability in the middle lane and jungle duo.
The German based esports organization only recently announced its full roster. The team is bringing in an ERL duo of Flakked and Targamas while swapping former Schalke 04 toplaner, Broken Blade, into the roster as well. This is a vastly different look as a majority of the members of G2’s historic 2018-2020 run are now either scattered across different teams or missing from competition.
Caps has been, and is set to remain, a vital part of the G2 roster ever since his switch from Fnatic in 2018. G2 is potentially attempting to keep Caps as a mainstay for future iterations of the roster as a franchise player. Fans of G2 at the very least expect their current midlaner to stick around for the immediate future.
