All ten teams were able to debut their new rosters with the LEC superweek, with plenty of surprises coming in the LEC’s first week. Countless rookies made their debuts as supposed super teams fell. Though only one week into the season, here are the main takeaways from the LEC thus far.
The mantle of ‘super team’ has been tossed around countless teams in LEC’s history. Though Vitality were largely dubbed this year’s super team, Fnatic have claimed the crown. Far and away the most dominant team of the superweek, Fnatic pose the strongest five-man core in the LEC. Currently one of the two undefeated teams in the league, Fnatic are the team to beat moving into weak two.
The rookies are here to stay
Every new competitive season brings a slew of aspiring ERL players into the starting roster. 2022 is no different, but several rookies stood out above the rest. Reeker, MAD Lion’s starting midlaner, had a strong start in the league as he defeated both Caps and Perkz in his first week. On several carry picks including Yasuo, Reeker is a clear force to watch throughout the season.
Other new comers such as Malrang, Shlatan, and Mersa all had strong performances, however G2’s bottom lane duo of Flakked and Targamas were also among the most impressive. With massive expectations placed upon them, the duo had a strong start and largely exceeded expectation as G2 Esports sit at a 2-1 record.
The ‘bottom half’ will be competitive
The playoff cut in the LEC almost always comes down to the wire, and 2022 will be no different. Given that Vitality will need some time to ramp up, the middle-of-the-pack teams will likely be a contentious fight. Six teams are currently within only one win of each other and these ties will persist until the bitter end.
