Well, one of the first things you need to start cooking, much like in real life, is either a (camp)fire or a stove. Things are easier when you’re just browsing a city, as most houses will have a stove, while on the road you’ll have to clear camps to get access to campfires first. Their functionality however is the exact same. If the campfire is not lit yet, use a character with Pyro to get it lit.
When cooking there’s two options, which are ‘Cook’ and ‘Process’. These are for either cooking a meal or processing raw ingredients and making other items out of them. You’re also likely to not have any recipes yet, which means you have to cook manually. You’ll be presented with a simple gauge, all you have to do is press stop when the meter is in the orange spot. Orange gets you a delicious dish, yellow a regular dish and grey will net you a suspicious dish (just don’t).
Recipes & Ingredients
If you want more recipes than the nine you already own, you’ll have to get questing and exploring, as they are results from doing those and are often presented as rewards or as loot. Getting ingredients is often easier. You can get them by looking around and foraging them, processing them on the stove or fire and by simply buying them from town or city vendors.
