Last week, Blizzard once again saw employees and supports stage a walkout across its several campuses. This latest staged protest comes after evidence presented by an article in the Wall Street Journal that implicated CEO Bobby Kotick in the ongoing lawsuit.
The WSJ article provided evidence that Kotick knew about the harassment occurring in his company for years. Despite this knowledge, Kotick either elected to keep those accused of misconduct or protected those who had to be forced out after the lawsuit began. Alongside this, Kotick himself had dozens of sexual harassment allegations levied against him.
In response to this article, Kotick doubled down that the company had undergone a series of meetings with administrative that actively worked on the company culture. He condemned the article and denied many of its claims.
Now it seems that the longtime CEO is contemplating a departure from the company. Kotick told staff that he would “think about the possibility” of leaving if he cannot fix the workplace environment issues. After the most recent walkout and a petition signed by over 1,700 employees that called for Kotick’s reassignment, the CEO admited that he was ‘ashamed’ what what occurred under his leadership.
While the CEO is publicly considering leaving the company, nothing has been confirmed yet. Shortly after the initial lawsuit broke, the Kotick announced that he would lower his yearly multi-million payout to $63,000. Now, it appears that Activision Blizzard may be in the market for a new CEO amidst the administrative overhaul that is already underway.
