Biggest announcements and all winners at The Game Awards 2020

Yesterday the winners of The Game Awards 2020 were announced which are meant to reward the people working within the gaming industry. Alongside handing out rewards to video game titles, voice actors and more The Game Awards also had some announcements in store from some of the most popular games of the moment.
Teasers and announcements

One of the biggest announcements was the one of Among Us, who informed players they’ll be getting a new Airship-based map somewhere soon which marks one of the biggest updates for the game since 2018. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate welcomes a new fighter in the form of Final Fantasy’s Sephiroth while Fortnite announced crossover events with Halo and The Walking Dead.


During The Game Awards we also got to see glimpses of both a new Mass Effect game as well as a new Dragon Age game (Dragon Age 4). One of the biggest surprises however might have been the gameplay trailer of Back 4 Blood, building on the legacy of Left 4 Dead. Finally, we also got to see a cinematic trailer for the reboot game of Perfect Dark.

The big winners

One of the biggest winners at The Game Awards in 2020 was undeniably The Last of Us II, which took home awards for categories such as Game of the Year, Best Narrative, Best Direction and more. Among Us also managed to win some categories such as Best Mobile Game and Best Multiplayer Game. Hades took home Best Indie Game.

When it comes to esports and content creation we saw some familiar names take home awards. Heo “Showmaker” Su won Best Esports Athlete, while Danny “Zonic” Soresen got awarded with Best Esports Coach. League of Legends won both Best Game and Best Event with Worlds 2020, while Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere got awarded Best Esports Host. To close things out, G2 Esports was elected as the Best Esports Team and Valkyrae won Content Creator of the Year.

Criticism

The Game Awards faced quite a bit of criticism after the results got shared, most notably The Last of Us II winning in quite a bit of categories. A lot of users on Twitter were not satisfied with the decision, criticizing the voting and jury system.
