On August 19 the Call of Duty League Championship will kick off with its Playoffs to determine the best Call of Duty Team in the world.
Eight teams managed to qualify for the finals, among them the Minnesota RØKKR. At the fifth Major they managed to pull off a reverse sweep to win against Toronto Ultra in a stunning upset.
“I think that reverse sweep was definitely one of the greatest Call of Duty reverse sweep comebacks if not the greatest, cause I feel like you just haven’t seen anything like it.” was also RØKKR pro Eli “Standy” Bentz’ impression of their own triumph in his interview with esports.com
Underdog or Dark Horse?
Their surprise victory at the Major also brought Minnesota into focus for the other teams. It is far less likely for their opposition to be stunned in a similar vein this time.
“(Due) to the fact that we won Major five, some teams are going to go back and look at what we do and see what they can do to counter us. They will see what they can do to beat us if we use the same strategy we had last time.” To counteract that Standy has also said that they will do some special preparation for the upcoming Championships:
“So going into Champs we wtry to revise a little bit on things we messed up on and also add some new things to our strategies to see if we can catch other teams off-guard. So the teams that we play against are not too comfortable and they won’t know what we are going to hit them with.”
But for him the Minnesota RØKKR are not part of the favourites:
We won that event but I still feel like some teams are definitely going to underestimate us.
