Bad news for Cloud9, who had to terminate the contract of their newest streamer, General Sniper, following LCS rules regarding age as he’s only 14 years old when the minimum age to join a team is 15. General Sniper is a popular League of Legends streamer with almost 70.000 followers.
After signing the 14-year old streamer Cloud9 put out an announcement tweet, which they have since removed. A few hours later they confirmed over Twitter that the signing of General Sniper was against LCS rules and they were forced to terminate his contract. General Sniper responded on Twitter himself: “Turns out the minimum age to join any team is 15 (even as a streamer) so my contract was terminated, very sad news. I’ll be back stronger than ever next year!”
General Sniper came into the public eye after reaching Challenger at only 13 years old. Furthermore, he’s also the brother of professional player and Dignitas top laner Omran “V1per” Shoura. Just like his brother he mains Riven.
Jack Etienne, the founder and CEO of Cloud9, reacted to the situation on Twitter and explained further. “These categories, Pro Player versus Streamer, are very different contracts with different obligations. We were informed after our announcement that what the rules intended are to bar hiring of any person below the age of 15 for any reason. This was new information for us and we immediately complied.”
