Cloud9 defeat Xset and 100 Thieves in their lower bracket run to NA LCQ Grand Finals
Cloud9 have not had an easy route in the NA Last Chance Qualifier. After defeating Version1, Cloud9 was knocked down to lower bracket fairly early on. Since, C9 Blue has had to take on a string of strong teams, including Gen.G, Xset, and 100 Thieves. Cloud9 withstood the storm, and now have only one obstacle left in Rise.
C9 ends 100 Thieves’ season
100 Thieves were among the favorites entering the NA LCQ. After competing in Masters Berlin, it seemed that the team was likely to qualify for Champions. Cloud9 cut their hopes short in a stunning 2-1 win.
100 Thieves took an early lead on their map pick, Icebox (14-12). Though C9 were able to push this initial game into overtime, Asuna’s Reina pick helped 100T close out the series with 30 total frags and an impressive 227 ADR.
On Haven, Cloud9 pushed back. The first half ended with an even 6-6 scoreline, though a five round winning streak saw Cloud9 seize a quick lead. Xeppaa had a massively impactful game on Raze, finding a 100% ESR and 19 kills.
Cloud9 carried this momentum into the third and final map of the series, Breeze, where they won a dominant 13-5 game. Despite the best efforts of 100T’s top fragger, Asuna, Cloud9 racked up a hefty 8-4 lead by the end of the first half. Leaf finished the series strong, with 23 kills that solidified C9’s win.
Can C9 win their rematch in the Grand Finals?
Though the team can celebrate their impressive lower bracket run, they still have Rise ahead of them. Of course, this is the same team that initially dropped them into the lower bracket. C9 have shown strides in their past three games, improving immensely.
Whether or not the team can overcome the potential mental block of facing Rise is another story. C9 seem to have all the keys to success, however need to maintain their incredible performance to claim the final spot.
