With Cloud9 on the cusp of playoffs and Na’Vi on the verge of elimination, the final day in Group C solved these contentious standings.
The first series began with two teams already qualified for playoffs, as Gambit defeated Furia 2-1. Though Furia had a promising start on attacker side, the first half ended 6-9. Off Abay “Hobbit” Khasenov’s total of 25 frags and 103 ADR, the first map ended 8-16 in Gambit’s favor. Inferno saw a similar 6-9 start for Gambit, though Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato’s second half showing facilitated their 9 round winstreak that pulled out a 16-13 win for Furia.
Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov had another incredible performance on Mirage, finishing with 26 total frags with 15 coming off the AWP. Gambit’s 9-16 win on map 3 solidified their first place finish in the group. Ending undefeated, Gambit’s win streak has only heated up as they have not dropped a series since their initial game in IEM Katowice.
In the standings over Na’Vi, Cloud9 had to close out their final game against MIBR convincingly. The task did not seem too unreasonable considering their Brazilian counterpart had only found one win so far. MIBR however won 2-0, spoiling C9’s playoff hopes before taking their exit from the ESL Pro League. Map on, Vertigo, was a tight 17-19 OT win for MIBR despite Ricky”floppy” Kemery’s best efforts, garnering 34 kills.
Overpass was a back in forth match that ultimately ended 14-16, Ricardo “boltz” Prass pushing his team to the victory with a notable performance. This was a bittersweet tournament for both teams, as while MIBR ended on a high note and C9 had arguably one of their best performances, both fell out.
Na’Vi’s final half of the tournament proved far better, as their last match against TeamOne clenched a playoff berth. With backup from Egor “flamie” Vasilyev, S1mple and the squad managed a clean 2-0. MIBR’s win made Na’Vi’s playoffs run a reality, however they will not have this same leniency once in the knockout stage.
Coming back from a 2 game deficit, Na’Vi’s run kept their future alive with a third place finish.
