CS:GO – Olofmeister back to FaZe

The long-awaited move of Bosnian star player NiKo to G2 Esports has been confirmed. After more than three years he leaves the international superteam of FaZe.

Update:

As Nikola “NiKo” Kovač left the FaZe roster, they have a spot to fill in the team. For the next few matches, Swedish CS:GO legend Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer is coming back to the team as a stand-in. Due to fatigue, the 28-year-old stepped down from the roster earlier this year.

Additionally, FaZe’s coach Janko “YNk” Paunović also announced stepping down from the organization. In a statement on Twitter, he mentions that “the team has been struggling with some recurring issues in and out of the game”, which he could not fix as the coach. He will take a break from coaching altogether and take new steps in 2021.

G2 expands its roster of French, Serbian, and Bosnian players with the addition of Nikola “NiKo” Kovač who was star rifler and even in-game leader for FaZe Clan before. They now boast a six-man roster similar to some of the other big organizations in CS:GO.

NiKo came to FaZe in 2017 as the best player in the world at the time. The new team was supposed to be the greatest international project Counter-Strike had ever seen. While they managed to secure many first-place wins at top events in 2017 and 2018, the team dropped off in later years.

Playing with G2, NiKo might return to the all-star form being lead by Nemanja “nexa” Isaković and playing side by side with his cousin Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač. The team has been in a slump for the second half of 2020 with their last good result being a second place at DreamHack Masters Spring. With the fragging power of NiKo, they could rival French competitor Vitality again.

A fresh start for all parties involved

“Maybe I let some of you down with the decision I made, but I believe it’s the best for both parties this way.”, NiKo wrote in a Twitter statement. He and FaZe had some difficulties in the past, so his old teammates might also be happy about a new leader coming to the team.

For the Bosnian player, the new start at G2 might be exactly what he needs to bring out his qualities once again. ” Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be evaluating the team and its progress to determine the optimal lineup for each match.”, the organization stated. So as in other six-man rosters, G2 now has more options to pick from for every match on their way.
