CS:GO teams can no longer use online coaches

In a blog post they made to their website, Valve explained that CS:GO teams will no longer be allowed to have coaches participating in online matches. The decision led to some outrage within the community.

The decision to no longer allow coaches during online games is to preserve competitive integrity, says Valve. “To avoid the diminished integrity of coaching from casting a shadow on the integrity of Valve-sponsored events, we’ll be changing the restrictions on support staff in the following way: During online matches only players are allowed in the room and on the server. Neither coaches nor any other team staff will be allowed in the room, on the server, or to otherwise communicate with the team during an online match.”

Valve is doing this in reaction to the major scandal that broke out surrounding a spectator bug that was abused by coaches, leading to sanctions. They also made it so coaches who did exploit the bug will no longer be allowed to participate in Valve-sponsored events, based on their ESIC demerits and the extent of the abuse, in some cases permanently banning them.

While some applaud the decision by Valve, others see the decision as a punishment for coaches who didn’t ever abuse the bug in the first place. We’ll be sure to hear more about the decision in the future within the CS:GO community.
