The COVID-19 pandemic has surely had it’s impact on conferences and conventions, and the yearly E3 event hasn’t been an exception. According to the latest rumor, E3 2022 won’t be taking place in person, but will be a fully digital experience. “E3 will be an entirely digital event again this year according to the ESRB who sent out emails to developers today.” Says insider Tom Henderson, who has a proven track record when it comes to this kind of news.
I guess this squashes the rumors that they were going to cancel it?
I’d be expecting an announcement soon if the ESRB is sending out emails.
E3 has been a pillar when it comes to gaming conventions and reveals of new games, with many developers looking towards the event to do some big showcases and reveals of what they’ve been working on or to tell the fans what games they can expect coming up next. Previous editions have also been completed fully online due to the pandemic, and it seems like 2022 won’t be an exception.
Many developers have already changed up their strategy when it comes to announcements, often using their own platform to generate buzz and steering away from doing big announcements during E3, which has admittedly lost some steam after going online. The starting date of E3 2022 hasn’t been announced as of yet.
