After a day of heavy critique on social media, the ECI has reverted course. Listening to the feedback has been a “humbling” experience for the ECI and they have decided to freeze their certification process for now.
This has been humbling. First of all, thank you to the entire esports community for your feedback. We read through every response/retweet, and we were lucky enough to also engage in dialogue with some of y’all. We hear you. We have plenty to fix and much to iterate through.
In addition to pausing new sign-ups to the certificate they have also announced to refund all payments on the sign-up and the study guide. While they have stressed out that their goal to fight nepotism and bad hiring in the industry remains the same, the ECI admitted that their current mehtod was ill-fitting.
“Back to the drawing board”
The ECI has not announced any schedule on how long they will pause their activities as they rethink their approach. However they will try to incorporate the critique they received and aim to be back in the future with a solution that is retooled and in accordance with their goals and values.
