The Chinese Team Edward Gaming (EDG) has launched a central hub for every health need of their players. Although the organisation has been hiring health experts since 2018 the new Health Management Center aims to elevate healthcare to the next level at EDG.
Mental and physical health have long been a rather overlooked aspect of a professional career in esports. But the latest prominent cases such as Chinese LoL-Star Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao or Denmark’s Counter-Strike Duo of Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander and Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth have brought the topic to the forefrunt of discussion once more.
One central hub
In their post on Weibo the Shanghai-based organisation has unveiled their new Esports Health Management Center. The newly created center will concentrate all health-related activities within Edward Gaming to provide better care for their players. The center will tackle four key issues for EDG:
- A healthy diet
- Physical training
- Rehabilitation in case of injury
- Prevention of disease
The organisation stressed out that EDG has been at the forefrunt of caring for their players’ health since 2016, when they were among the first to offer a gym and yoga lessons. Continueing their effort in 2018 they hired medical staff for the physical and mental well-being of their players.
With Uzi’s recent retirement due to his numerous health problems in mind, EDG’s action towards the well-being of their players is another step towards professionalisation in esports.

In their statement the Chinese organisation also said that the new health center was not only to enable their players to perform at their best but also “to prevent injuries and prolong their professional careers”.
