Envy Victor: “I am extremely confident that we will make playoffs”

First of all, congratulations on getting your first international win. How are you and your team adjusting to Berlin?

Victor: It’s been really good. This is our first LAN as five. The core of our team, Crashies, FNS, and myself have all been playing on this team for almost over a year now. We’re just really excited to play with each other in-person.

You’ve had a very long journey getting to Berlin. Of course you started on T1 but became one of the mainstays on Envy. What does it mean to you to finally get a shot at international competition?

Victor: Even on T1 I really felt like I had the potential to play on an international stage. Obviously it didn’t work out with T1 and I’m really glad I came to Envy and I was able to realize that possibility.

As you said, this is Envy’s first time on LAN. How comfortable was the team on stage?

Victor: I think, just judging on how the first game went, everyone was pretty calm. Even when Vivo Keyd had that big lead on us, I think it was 6-1 or 7-1. Everyone just stayed calm and knew that the game was winnable regardless of the scoreline.

What was the team’s expectation going into this first game, and did it change after that close first game?

Victor: We really felt like it was going to be a clean 2-0 to be honest. They really impressed me honestly, I don’t think that Heat missed a shot. He was always in the right spot and his teammates were setting him up well. Yeah, they played really well as a team and I was impressed. After we won game one we knew we were going to win Bind. There was no chance they were going to win on Bind especially since it was our pick.

Going back to that first game on Icebox, Vivo Keyd had a surprising start. What do you think caused this first half to spiral out of control for Envy?

Victor: There was an early round where we had four in A bombsite and we were ready for their hit, but we didn’t hold the site even though we had a numbers advantage. I think that round really swung the momentum in their favor. We should have won that round cleanly to be honest. Our economy was really broken after that because we couldn’t string together any rounds. They just had the huge economy advantage and also the momentum, and they took it early.

It felt like on that eco round a switch had flipped and Envy was back in the game. What caused this?

Envy: Honestly all credit for that Icebox win goes to Crashies. Him winning that one clutch on that eco round literally just swung it in our favor. Everyone was so hyped and motivated and Crashies literally just reignited us on that map.

Game two felt like the inverse of game one, as Envy got the early lead and it was Vivo Keyd who slowly crawled back in the game. What did you guys do to prevent you from losing control of this map?

Victor: Yeah, we had a really good lead and they managed to end the half with five rounds. I don’t think it really mattered or bothered us that much to be honest. We knew we should have won those rounds and that we were in a situation to win those rounds. Every single round they won I think came down to a defuse so we were getting to the site and our game plan was working. We never really lost faith in our game plan.

Do you think starting off Masters Berlin by winning such a competitive series gives the team a lot to learn from?

Victor: Yeah this is our first match together internationally. We got our first win under our belt and honestly I feel like the rest of the event should be smooth sailing.

Following this series, how confident are you that Envy can escape the group stage?

Victor: I am extremely confident that we will make playoffs. I think that Vivo Keyd will be the other team to make it out of groups as well.

You guys will be facing either Zeta or Kru next. Do you have any thoughts on this series or either team?

Victor: To be honest, I haven’t watched them too much, either Kru or Zeta. We’re just going to see who we end up matching against and watch some of their VODs, watch their matches, how they play and also focus on our game. We know that we’re a strong team with five strong individuals. There’s no reason we should stray away from our own game.

Thank you for the interview Victor and best of luck going forward!
