ESL: G2 climbs to first place while Mousesports and NIP still hunt for a win

Group B finds it’s early leaders as G2 remain undefeated and FaZe rebounds.

Though having great individual performances, NIP ended day one with a loss. NIP’s best performers were able to maintain the level of play from yesterday and translated that excellence into their first win over ENCE. Out of the gate, NIP had a strong showing as they won on the first map 2-16. Hampus “hampus” Poser facilitated this dominant performance with 22 kills and an impressive 130 DPR. Game two was similarly one-sided, though this time for ENCE as they equalized the series with a 16-5 win on Mirage.

Nicolas “Plopski” Zamora led NIP in their 7-16 win on Inferno, finishing with 1.62 rating. Now both teams stand at a 1-1 record with hopes of breaking into the upper elechon of the group. NIP’s game against FaZe on the 15th will be the next test for the Swedish squad.

Rebounding after their loss against Vitality, FaZe similarly even their win rate with a victory over mousesports. FaZe’s 2-0 began on Mirage where they left the first half with a marginal deficit as 6-7, but Helvijs “broky” Saukants’ AWP prowess brought them to a 13-16 finish. Broky continued his hot streak to Inferno, ending with 29 kills, 92 DPR, and 1.58 rating.

Mousesports have not caught a break yet, this loss leaving them 0-2. Even with David “frozen” Čerňanský’s excellent play, mousesports haven’t been able to convert their rounds into wins. Inching closer to elimination, their game against Vitality will be a major obstacle if they hope to move past the group stage.

In an impressive showing, G2 won their second match against the resurging Vitality squad. The first half of Mirage was a close contest as Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut lead Vitality to a 10-5 start. However G2 had a flawless 11 round win streak on CT side to close out the map 10-16. G2 once again have shown an affinity for all rifle strategy, which Vitality largely did not have an answer for. At the same time, Nikola “Niko” Kovac looked more comfortable as the team’s primary AWPer, picking it up more in the second map of Vertigo.

The Bosnian duo, huNter- Niko pushed G2 to an even faster, more decisive 6-16 finish. Nemanja “huNter-” Kovac showing up with 21 kills and 101 DPR.

Now 2-0, G2 holds the sole position of 1st place in Group B, facing ENCE next.
