ESL Pro League Group B conclusion – OG undefeated on top

Two of out of the four groups in the ESL Pro League have concluded, and six teams have now emerged as playoff hopefuls. Group B was perhaps the most volatile group we have seen thus far. Early favorites, such as G2, suffered countless upsets and fell while unlikely squads clinched their playoff spots. Advancing from the group are OG, forZe, and Complexity.

OG complete the perfect group stage run

The OG roster has gone through several highs and lows ever since making some massive changes to their lineup. This group event was one of the best showings this iteration of the team has had. The team’s primary AWPer, Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski has found the highest K-D difference (+102) and K/D (1.62) in the tournament. Mantuu’s impeccable performance has been backed up by the consistent play of the longstanding core.

Put into a relatively difficult group, with the CIS threats in both ForZe and Virtus.pro as well as recent performers, G2, OG made a miraculous 5-0 run. Perhaps hitting their stride once again, OG look to make a deep run in the playoffs.

What went wrong with G2?

G2 seemed like the team to beat in this group initially. The squad has had a series of impressive runs in the past month, with star players like Nikola “NiKo” Kovac appearing unstoppable. The predicted winners of Group B, reality could not be further from expectations.

G2 ended the group winless, at 0-5. G2 had one of the worst collective K-D differences (-135) and combined rating (0.94). This superstar roster fell flat in an unexpected, and rather drastic manner. G2 will certainly have to reaccess their play if they hope to regain their fist place ranking in the world rankings.
