Day four of the group stage saw Heroic continuing their dominant performance and FPX halting BIG from another win.
In the first match of day four, the undefeated Heroic roster met OG in a full three-game series. Before the first game even started however, OG was forced to make a roster change. Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen was not permitted to play against Heroic due to a potential conflict of interest considering the Danish rifler is still contracted to the roster even though he has been exploring free agency. In his stead, OG fielded Nathan “NBK” Schmitt who was also recently benched but brought back for likely his last series with the roster. This ‘last dance’ NBK got with OG had an unfortunate ending as Heroic defeated NBK and company 2-1.
Whereas Ismail “refrezh” Ali was Heroic’s primary win condition on day three, the other new player, Rasmus “sjuush” Beck was the star of day four. Finishing with 60 frags and 94 DPR across all three maps the former MAD Lion continued Heroic’s domination of group A. Though losing Mirage 6-16, OG scraped by on Train (16-10) to equalize the series. The final game on Overpass closed out the series, OG taking only a single round on CT side as Heroic cruised into a 4-0 win record.
In the second and final series of the day, BIG was handed their third loss by FunPlus Phoenix. This was an incredibly tight set of three maps, FPX barely pulling out game one on Inferno off the back of Pavle “Maden” Boskovic and Miikka “suNny” Kemppi’s performance. BIG fired back on Mirage, winning 16-10. Ultimately though, in yet another close Nuke game, FPX managed a 9 round win streak that secured them the final map (14-16) and their second win.
This was certainly disappointing for BIG considering how hard-fought this game was and since they have but a single win in the ESL Pro League. FPX finds themselves at an uneasy 2-2 and looking toward their next and potentially final game against OG tomorrow.
