G2 Esports officially released Mikyx earlier today, mere hours afterwards Excel announced that the support player would join the team’s starting roster ahead of LEC week three. Mikyx is set to join Patrik in Excel’s bottom lane and will reunite with former G2 coach Nelson.
Mikyx parts ways with G2 after nearly three years with the organization. Most notably, during his time with G2 Mikyx won four consecutive domestic titles, an MSI Champion, and made a World Finals appearance. After the team’s collapse in 2021, G2 underwent a massive overhaul.
After failing to secure a starting spot at the beginning of 2022 LEC Spring Split, Mikyx will now join Excel three weeks into the season. The unexpected roster change will unfortunately leave the promising Excel support, Advienne, withou a team. Regarding the change, the Dutch support stated “This decision was taken by the management only, without any open dialogue with my (now ex) teammates or any heads up to me prior to the decision already being made”
Similar to many viewers, the choice blindsided Advienne stating that Excel planned around rebuilding the entire 2022 roster around himself and Markoon. “During the offseason Excel made clear that the roster for 2022 was going to be rebuilt around Mark and I.”
Excel is off to a rather rough start in the LEC, currently sitting at sixth place with a 2-3 record. Notorious for just falling short of playoffs, finishing in seventh place nearly every split since its inception in the LEC, Excel hopes to turn its reputation around.
