FaZe Clan distance themselves from Meyers Leonard following anti-semitic comment on stream

Esports organization FaZe Clan have released a statement saying they are distancing themselves from NBA player and investor Meyers Leonard following his use of an anti-semitic slur.

Meyers Leonard is a NBA player and a power forward for the Miami Heat, alongside joining FaZe Clan as an investor. In one of his Twitch streams Leonard used an anti-semitic slur to describe an enemy he was facing in Call of Duty: Warzone. Twitch has since reacted to the comment and decided to ban him from the platform. “We do not allow the use of hateful slurs on Twitch. The safety of our community is our top priority” Twitch said.

In their statement FaZe Clan say Leonard wasn’t a member of the organization, despite being an investor and creating content under the FaZe banner as ‘FaZe Hammer’.  They go on to say they are cutting ties with him. “We were incredibly disappointed to hear Meyers’ stream today. FaZe does not tolerate hate speech or discriminatory language of any kind. While Meyers is not a member of FaZe, we are cutting ties with him.”

Leonard’s comments also had repercussions outside of his connection to FaZe Clan. Both Scuf Gaming and Origin PC decided to end their partnership with the power forward, while the NBA is reportedly investigating the incident themselves. Leonard has since apologized saying he didn’t know what the slur meant.
