Furia falls to Cloud9 while Na’Vi rebounds

With a swift series of 2-0s across the board, Cloud9 solidified their spot in third place while Gambit remained undefeated.

The first series between Gambit and TeamOne saw the CIS powerhouse maintain their undefeated streak with a clean 2-0 victory. The first map, Inferno, fell to Gambit’s favor with a 5-16 finish. Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov had a standout performance as he finished with 29 total kills and 124 ADR. Mirage went down a similar route as Gambit pulled out an replicated 5-16 win again, though this time Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov propelling his team forward.

While seemingly an easy 2-0, this series showed the true depth of Gambit as members who have historically played behind the likes of Sh1ro and Abay “Hobbit” Khassenov. Maintaining their standing at the top of Group C.

After their upset loss against Furia yesterday, Na’Vi resurged with a 2-0 win over their Brazilian opponents, MIBR. Citing his prior poor performance to health issues, Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev rekindled his legendary status to easily earn the MVP on this series. S1mple garnered 76 total kills across the two game series with 103 ADR off 55 total AWP kills. Leaving nearly every other player in the lobby behind him, S1mple showed that Na’Vi can still easily threaten for a playoff spot.

MIBR joined TeamOne in being eliminated from the possibility of playoff contention, however could still play spoiler to Cloud9 tomorrow.

Cloud9 ended the day with a crucial win over Furia to keep their playoff dreams alive and gain more solid ground in their footing at third place. One of Cloud9’s most convincing wins since the inception of their Colossus project, the organization only dropped a total of 7 rounds across the whole series, only a single round loss on game 2 of Nuke. Cloud9’s players outpaced Furia on an individual level across the board, Alex “ALEX” McMeekn however being the catalyst for their incredible performance.

With a game left tomorrow, Cloud9 have the potential to clench a playoff berth out of Group C.
