G2 and Gambit emerge as winners in BLAST Spring Showdown

In two tight series, G2 and Gambit found the top spots in the BLAST Spring Showdown.

In the first series of the day, G2 won out over Spirit to find one of their better tournament placements in 2021. Game one however was not confidence inspiring for G2 fans as Spirit took Mirage 6-16. G2 largely couldn’t find their shots in this first map, losing 13 maps to total elimination with all G2 players ending with their K/Ds in the negatives.

G2 found their stride in map two versus Dust2. Though down at the half 7-8, the Kovacs staged an incredible 10 round wins streak that firmly put G2 ahead. Nemanja “huNter-” Kovac ended the map with 26 frags and 100 ADR at the end of the game as G2 won 16-12.

The series ended in dramatic overtime fashion, as G2 pulled out a 19-17 win. This time, G2 left the half with their only early lead however only took 4 rounds on T-side as Spirit equalized the series. Nikola “Niko” Kovac largely led his team to a victory as he finished with 29 total frags.

Gambit redeemed themselves after their EPL finals loss to Heroic. Starting the series with a dominant 6-16 in win on Inferno, Heroic interrupted the CIS squad’s momentum on Vertigo. Rene “TeSeS” Madsen found 21 kills and 91 ADR in their 16-9 victory to equalize the series.

Gambit fired back and took the series on Train 12-16. Despite TeSeS once again topfragging, Gambit’s T-side resurgence kept Heroic to four round victories. Finally outperforming the Danish roster, Gambit took game two in this new age rivalry.
