G2 knock out Astralis while S1mple pushes Navi past Furia

DreamHack Masters Spring resumed with the quarterfinals in the elimination bracket. G2 and Navi reigned supreme while Astralis and Furia saw their runs end.

Still reeling from the loss of their star player, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, Astralis only fell further after a 2-1 loss to G2. A contentious first half on map one, Train, was followed by a 9 round sweep that found an early advantage for G2. Astralis managed to bounce back on their signature map, Nuke where they won 14-16. Perhaps a silver lining in this transitional period for Astralis, mainstay Emil “Magisk” Reif had a standout performance with 27 total kills.

G2 snuffed out any hope Astralis had on the final map, Vertigo. One of their best maps, G2 started out the gate with a 10-5 lead. Continuing this dominance into their defender side, G2 claimed the map and a spot in the semi-finals versus Gambit with a 16-8 win. With the duo of NiKo and HuNter- performing at such a high level, G2 appear to be worthy competitors for the surging CIS squad.

Another team exceeding expectations since the start of the European stay, Furia unfortunately dropped out. A tight OT win on Inferno (22-19). In their single win Vinicius “VINI” Figueiredo led his team with 31 kills and 87 ADR across 41 rounds.

After a tight win on map one, Navi shot back with two convincing 16-6 wins on both Nuke and Mirage. Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev once again led his team with 77 total frags across the series. Now facing Heroic, this will be one of Navi’s most difficult challenges in recent memory.
