G2 narrowly slip past OG while Spirit advances to BLAST’s semi-finals

OG and Dignitas were the latest teams to be booted from the BLAST Spring Showdown while G2 and Spirit are set up for a semi-final bout.

The first series couldn’t have started with a more contentious series as G2 ultimately bested OG to advance to the semi-finals 2-1. Map one started on Nuke, and while G2 held an early lead by the end of their CT-side OG managed to tie up the series to take it to a nailbiting OT contest. Though Shahar “flameZ” Shushan had an incredible start, posting 48 total frags and 104 ADR by the end of the game, G2 ultimately took the first win.

OG recovered from this heartbreaking loss well though, absolutely dominating on Dust2 with an ending scoreline of 16-3. This time Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen carried OG’s flag as he ended the landslide victory with a 2.05 overall rating. The third map definitely fell in G2’s favor, as their recent success on Inferno has granted them a 100% winrate the past 2 months. G2’s best performer as of late, Nemanja “huNter-” Kovac, continued his hotstreak by aggregating 33 kills and an impressive 126 ADR to clutch out the semi-finals for G2.

In a similar 2-1 victory, Spirit advanced to face off against G2 after ending Dignitas’ run. The first game, on Nuke, began with Dignitas a 6-9 deficit however came back with a 7 round winstreak on CT-side to claim the gaem 16-4. Though Spirit went down with a fight, they were able to bounce back in Dust2. Nikolay “mir” Bityukov led his team’s comeback starting with a 9-16 win.

Spirit completely outclassed Dignitas in the final game of the series, every player ending with a higher overall rating in their 7-16 final win. After upsetting Team Liquid, Dignitas’ Cinderella run was cut short by the CIS squad.
