Gambit make their third straight final, Navi impress with win over Heroic

2021 has proven to be the year of the CIS region. Though other regions have had their shining glimpses, DreamHack Masters demonstrated the region’s dominance.

Certainly the best year of the organization’s history in CS:GO, Gambit have continued their 2021 hot streak. Gambit’s two dominant wins over G2 was a quick affair that fully showcased Gambit’s full potential. IGL Abay “Hobbit” Khasenov led his team with 44 total frags and 101 ADR across the relatively short series.

This will be Gambit’s third straight final. Beginning by taking IEM Katowice against Virtus.pro, Gambit most recently fell in a tight series against the Danish squad, Heroic. Though Gambit have shown an ability to outplay every other top team, they have a particularly excellent win rate against fellow CIS teams. Their monopoly over the region will once again be challenged by the region’s most historically successful team, Natus Vincere.

In a 2-1 series, Navi snuffed out Heroic’s hopes of making a second straight final. One of Heroic’s best maps, Mirage (16-11), began the series and started off the series strong for Heroic. In a battle of CS:GO titans, Navi fought back by taking Nuke (12-16) and Inferno (13-16).

This series showed once again that when Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is playing at his peak, Navi look near unstoppable. Ending with 87 total kills, a 77% KAST, and 102 ADR in this incredibly long and contentious series, S1mple seemed intent of pushing his team to finals. Now facing off against Gambit, this will be the first time these teams have competed since the semi-finals of IEM Katowice. Since then, both teams have shown incredibly highs and lows.
