The two EPL finalists found their way to each other quickly in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown.
After upsetting Vitality in the quarter-finals, 9z came into their matchups against the resurging Danish squad in hopes of playing king slayers once again. Heroic however came out with a victory once again, defeating the South Americans 2-0.
The series was not a complete landslide for Heroic however, as though up 12-3 on CT-side in Mirage, 9z put up a respectable T-side. Ultimately, Heroic started off with a 16-8 victory. Inferno similarly went the way of Heroic, ending 16-12.
Former MAD Lion, Rasmus “sjuush” Beck, had one of his best individual performances since joining the Heroic roster as he finished with 52 total frags.
In the second series of the day, Furia fell to Gambit 2-1 as the CIS squad set the stage for an EPL rematch. Game one, on Mirage, was a convincing 16-6 victory led by Dmitry sh1ro” Sokolov. Overpass however proved to be the tightest game on the series, Furia barely pulling out a 14-16 win.
Just as dominant as the first game of the series, Gambit closed out the series 16-5. Abay “Hobbit” Khasenov had an immaculate performance to close out the game, finding a 90% KAST, 22 total frags, and 104 ADR.
Though dropping a game in their respective series, Gambit can perhaps feel more confident going into their semi-final rematch versus Heroic than before. Adversely, some of Heroic’s quieter members showed incredible performances. With a finals spot on the line, tensions between these teams couldn’t be higher.
