Hiko retires from CS:GO and joins 100 Thieves for VALORANT
Professional CS:GO player Spencer “Hiko” Martin has announced that he’ll no longer be competing in Counter-Strike. He made the announcement during a livestream, where it was also revealed he’ll be joining the new 100 Thieves VALORANT roster. Hiko will serve as a team captain.
The 30-year-old Hiko has been part of the Counter-Strike scene for a very long time, starting in Counter-Strike 1.6 in 2011 with CheckSix Gaming. After moving to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2012 he played for teams such as compLexity Gaming, Cloud9, iBUYPOWER, Rogue and Team Liquid. The last major he attended was the FACEIT Major: London 2018, where he competed for Rogue, before becoming a free agent in May 2019.
With Hiko 100 Thieves isn’t only getting a new player for their VALORANT roster, but also a popular content creator. On his livestream, Hiko talked about moving to Los Angeles, where the 100 Thieves headquarters is located, when the COVID-19 situation allows him to travel safely. “I’m not going to move until the threat of COVID is gone, until it’s safe. I’ll continue to stream and I’ll make a professional VALORANT team for 100 Thieves. We’ll see what happens from there.
I consider myself to be officially retired now from CS:GO, all my efforts will now be put towards VALORANT.
100 Thieves is one of many organizations that have been putting together a roster for VALORANT, as teams such as TSM and T1 have also already signed players to compete for them. An interesting development as Riot Games hasn’t revealed a lot of details about their approach to competitive VALORANT yet.
How do you think Hiko will do in VALORANT? Will he be able to create a winning team for 100 Thieves? Let us know and join the discussion on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Discord!
