Whether a planned media stunt or genuine intern error, 100 Thieves’ Twitter verification ordeal was one to remember.
100 Thieves’ ‘Senior Intern’, JHBTeam, has been a glowingly prevalent face in the esports and apparel organization’s brand. Host of the show ‘TBH with JHB’, JHBTeam has interviewed some of the biggest online personalities both in and outside of 100 Thieves. As part of his incorporation into the company, JHBTeam was given full reign of the main 100 Thieves Twitter account.
In his relatively short time as the Social Media Manager for the organization, JHBTeam pushed the follower count to 1 million followers. By engaging with fellow 100 Thieves members, even including CEO Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag and Co-owner Jack “Courage” Dunlop. However, though JHBTeam was able to achieve this incredible feat for the 100 Thieves Twitter account, he also lost 100 Thieves their verification.
Almost immediately after reaching 1 million followers, the Twitter handled for 100 Thieves was changed to 100JHB. Changing the handle instantly lost the account its verification. As you can guess, there very mixed reactions to this blunder from onlookers and 100 Thieves staff alike. Ultimately, the loss of verification only lasted a day, and after a short time, JHB was reinstated with the 100 Thieves’ Twitter account.
There was been plenty of discourse on Twitter around the ‘truthfulness’ regarding this ordeal. Many believe that this was a planned publicity stunt, perhaps with the intention of making the massive organization more personable or to make the final push 1 million followers. Some maintain that this was a genuine mistake from JHBTeam and an organic response from organization heads. Either way, this has been one of the most entertaining, and memorable, publicity stunts in recent memory.
