How strong is DPC South America? – Looking ahead to The International 10

Can beastcoast (and K1) carry their way to victory?

No South American power ranking is complete without the most dominant team in the region ever since its inception. Starting out in North America but quickly migrating South to survive the dota 2 winter, beastcoast is filled with some of the best talent South America has to offer, but none of them stand out more than the legendary Héctor Antonio Rodríguez “K1” Asto. This lad has shown to be the essence of a position one player.

The team often gears their strategies entirely around their carry player since they know that when he gets the farm, he will win them the game. A strategy that while often successful has also grown to be very predictable. If teams don’t figure out a way to slay the indomitable hector, beastcoast could turn out to be one the most dangerous dark horses of the tournament.

Will SG-esports step up again?

While beastcoast might represent the pinnacle of Peruvian dota 2 skill, SG-esports is their Brazilian counterpart. Often being the direct challengers to beastcoast’s dominance in the region, but never being able to properly surpass them. They have however shown to be a dangerous team on the international stage in the past.

Many of their players have played on the former Pain Gaming squad. A team that was often seen as the gatekeepers to the top, never quite reaching it themselves but not allowing other teams to reach it either. Throughout this year the performance has been a little bit subpar. If they can repeat their incredible showing from the last South American TI qualifiers, they might be a team to fear in Romania.

Thunder Predator looking for inspiration

In a region of dark horses, you can never forget about Thunder Predator. They are a Peruvian team that has shown that they have the potential for upsets ingrained deep into their soul. Few of you will have forgotten about their phenomenal performance at this year’s Singapore Major. However, the team has been a bit lacking ever since that performance. Never quite reaching the highs it did that at that tournament.

Therefore they will need to make some real changes if they want to compete on the highest level in Romania. With the help of TI winning coach in the form of Clinton “Fear” Loomis they might just have found the secret ingredient for a comeback tour in Bucharest.

The dark horses of the tournament

South America has always been a region that is hard to make predictions about. Be that domestic or international events, you are never quite sure what you are going to get. Their incredible raw skill combined with lackluster leadership leads to teams that can beat anyone if it all comes together. But can also fall down quickly when met with calculated resistance. They might not be consistent enough to reach top placements, but they can definitely pack a punch and should be feared by any team that wants to obtain the Aegis of Champions.
