The LCS is set to begin with the 2022 LCS Lock-In. Debuted last year, the Lock-In is a pre-season tournament with no regular season or playoff ramifications. This Week long tournament will give teams an opportunity to try out their new rosters and test out the new meta without consequence.
The 2022 LCS Lock-In will feature all ten LCS teams competing a two-staged tournament. The phase will consist of a single round-robin group stage where group mates will square off in Bo1 contests. Group A consists of 100 Thieves, Cloud9, FlyQuest, Golden Guardians, and TSM. Group B will contain Team Liquid, Dignitas, Evil Geniuses, CLG, and Immortals.
The top four teams from each group will qualify for the playoffs stage and performance in groups will determine seeding. The playoffs will be a single elimination bracket with Bo5 series played throughout. The pre-season champion will ultimately be decided in the Grand Finals and go into the regular season with the most experience and the first trophy of 2022.
Alongside the prestige of being the first champion of the 2022 season, the Lock-In also features a $150,000 prize. The winner will be the sole team awarded the entirety of the prize. Only the second time that this tournament has been held, Team Liquid are entering as the reigning champions of the pre-season having won in 2021. The tournament will be streamed on the official LCS channel from January 14th to 30th.
