League developers look at Patch 11.18 data for upcoming Worlds patch changes

It’s been nearly 24 hours since Patch 11.18 dropped on live servers worldwide, and Riot is already looking at the data it has gathered.

The current patch is being used as a test patch for the World Championships. This gives Riot some extra leeway when they release Patch 11.19, the official patch of Worlds. By releasing the patch on live servers, Riot gets a huge amount of information so they can adapt in time for the World Championships in October.

Head Game Designer Jeevun Sidhu said quite a lot of the bugs and nerfs implanted in 11.18 will be either reverted or adjusted for 11.19. Only a certain number of changes will be rolled over.

A total of 33 champions have received either buffs or nerfs, and according to Sidhu, 27 of those champions “hit their targets pretty cleanly”.

“I’m here to talk about the other 6’, Sidhu said on Twitter.

The champions he’s talking about are Renekton, Soraka, Varus, Qiyana, Fizz, and Singed. All of these champions received substantial changes in yesterday’s patch.

Out of those, it looks like Fizz was buffed far too much, with changes to his passive Nimble Fighter, his W ability Seastone Trident, and his ultimate Chum The Waters. The buff was so strong it sparked a hotfix by Riot to tone him down, with more changes coming in 11.19.

Riot said they were “okay with this for now but would like to see more games with him to confirm” when talking about the Singed changes.

For the other four champions, Riot is looking to add “safe buffs” for Renekton and requires “more data” before potentially changing the Varus nerfs.

Qiyana and Soraka weren’t extensively talked about, with no apparent changes planned to these champions.
