Who will claim the first interregional title of 2021’s League of Legends season? As the best teams from around the world gather in Iceland, we take a look back at the past conquerors of the Mid-Season Invitational.
The very first Mid-Season Invitational in 2015 saw only six teams participate. Chinese Edward Gaming managed to overcome Faker`s T1 in the finals with a 3-2 scoreline earning themselves the title. ▲
2016 was the second edition of the MSI and also featured six teams. This time there was no stopping the Korean juggernaut led by Faker and they took home the trophy in a 3-0 triumph over Counter Logic Gaming ▲
Riot expanded the Mid-Season Invitational in 2017 with not only more teams but also a significantly higher prize pool. That did not stop Faker from getting his second back-to-back MSI title as T1 dispatched of G2 in a 3-1 Grand Final. ▲
In 2018 China reclaimed the MSI title for their region as legendary ADC Uzi`s RNG rolled over Kingzone Dragon X from Korea. With a 3-1 score Uzi cemented his position as one of the best ADCs who have ever played LoL. ▲
2019 was the year of G2. The Mid-Season Invitational was no exception to their spectacular year as the European superstars first took down Faker`s T1 in the semifinal before dismissing Team Liquid in a 3-0 blowout that would become the fastest Best of 5 in LoL`s international history. ▲
Similar to many events during 2020, Riot was forced to cancel the Mid-Season Invitational for 2020. While there were some replacements for it like the LPL vs LCK showmatch, no MSI title was awarded in 2020. ▲
MSI 2021 is to be held in Iceland`s capital Reykjavik without an audience. The world`s best LoL teams will clash to determine the next champion in May 2021. ▲
