Once again G2 reigns supreme in Europe. After an early stumble in the LEC playoffs against MAD Lions, G2 rallied and made a strong run through the Lower Bracket. In the Grand Finals they then beat fnatic 3-0 in one of the fastest Best-of-5’s in history.
G2 Retain their European Crown
The LEC Grand Finals were a short affair this time around as G2 ran a clinic all over fnatic with a 3-0 stomp. Glimpses of their almost perfect 2019-form could be seen as fnatic was unable to put up any resistenace in games one and two. Only on the final map did the seven-time champion show any signs of life, but by then it was too late as G2 punished small mistakes to take home the trophy.
With the Spring Split 2020 under their belts G2 now caught up to Fnatic’s seven historic LEC-championships and qualify to the Mid-Season Invitational 2020. G2’s jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski was awarded the MVP-title for the Spring Split 2020.
Coming into the finals Fnatic was favored due to their strong performances against Origen and MAD Lions. But on the day of the Grand Finals Fnatic simply did not show up on the server until it was too little too late.
With this loss Fnatic has to begrudgingly play second fiddle to G2 in Europe and go back to the drawing board to find new ways to challenge the masters of Europe.
