In an insane and fun to watch loser bracket run, Mang0 beat out Zain 3-2 in an amusing Grand Final to snag his first Smash Summit title at Smash Summit 11.
There’s no doubt that everybody was excited for Smash to finally return to LAN at Smash Summit 11, but there’s no doubt that this edition of the tournament delivered action and exciting moments. The stakes were high from the start, with Smash Summit 11 featuring the highest prize pool for a Smash tournament ever, sitting at $155,640. The eventual winner would be Mang0 who took home over $45,000.
For Mang0 it’s the first time he has ever won a Smash Summit despite being very close multiple times. In the online Smash Summit 10, we actually saw the final with Mang0 facing off against Zain, with this time the latter winning out. That scenario repeated itself as Mang0 raced through the loser bracket (after losing to Plup) to find Zain waiting in the final. Things ended up going to game 10, this time with a different ending and a Mang0 victory.
It’s a great start for the return to LAN for the Smash Brothers scene, which has visibly suffered under the COVID-19 restrictions. For many players and fans, it’s been great to see each other again and to see the best players compete again, looking each other dead in the eye.
