Matchfixers offer $13,000 to Yellow Submarine Players during ESL One Germany

During the currently ongoing ESL One Germany 2020 Yellow Submarine reported that their players were approached by matchfixers for their upcoming elimination match against Na`Vi.

According to a screenshot shared by Yellow Submarines’ manager Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov Yellow Submarine’s Offlaner Magomed “Collapse” Halilov was contacted via Discord with the following message:

According to a translation on reddit by u/evilrapich the matchfixer said the following:

“Hi, there’s opportunity to make some good money on tomorrow match against Navi. More than prize money you get win or lose.If you agree don’t tell your manager, beside you there will be 2 players from your team. You 3 will share 1 million rubles.”

To which Collapse replied with: “No, thank you.”

1 million Russian Rubles convert to roughly $13,000 USD, more than what teams would earn from placing Top 8 in ESL One Germany 2020. With potential matchfixers openly contacting players with direct offers like these it bodes ill for the health and state of the current tier 2 scene.

Cyber Legacy also under scrutiny

This incident is unfortunately not an isolated one. In the very same tournament Cyber Legacy has come under scrutiny for suspicious gameplay and a correspondingly suspicious moving betting line on various platforms. The CEO of bookmaker Parimatch even said on Telegram that the shifting odds led to them withdrawing the game in question from betting on.

While the evidence is circumstantial at best Cyber Legacy’s CEO Vladislav Grechkin gave a statement to cybersport.ru, in which he declared his team’s innocence. The community is most likely going to launch a more in-depth investigation into issue as several prominent personalities like former player and current analyst and caster Yaroslav Vladimirovich “NS” Kuznetsov also took to Twitter to say that matchfixing is a bigger issue than many expect.

The current affair once more spotlights the precarious situation of many semi-professional players in the Dota 2 scene as they struggle with stable income in the current ecosystem.
