Maximum FPS – How to optimize Windows for better performance

You are ready for a round of Warzone. The game starts, you land on your spot and engage in a battle. Then it happens: Your game starts to stutter and you are inside the Gulag. Stuttering like this can happen because your framerate sinks below 30 and you do not get a smooth transition between the images. The performance of your PC is failing.

Some people would buy new hardware now, but theres an easy, fast and free workaround you should try first.

5 Tips for better performance

In this article we want to show you how to finetune your PC for better gaming performance.

Energy Options

One of the first things to do is to check your Windows Settings.

By default your operating system tries to balance the power consumption with your hardware performance. But this will obviously limit the performance of your hardware.

For that reason you should change that setting. Head over to “Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options” and change the setting from balanced to high performance. Even though your power consumption is higher now, you should be getting more performance with your computer. Of course there are more options to increase your performance with a couple clicks.

Gaming Mode

The enabled Game Mode will ensure that there arent any unnecessary driver installations and notifications. It also will help you to ensure more stable FPS. But just because its more stable it does not mean the framerate will be higher. For that you need to unburden your computer.

Disable Autostart

Whenever you boot your PC some programs will be started automatically as well. A lot of them are unnecessary and take up a lot of ressources. Because of that we recommend you Microsoft’s own software “autoruns”.

In this application all processes will be shown that start along with your system. Before you remove all the checks you should open the options and check “Hide Microsoft Entries”. With this enabled Microsoft’s programs, which you might need for your system will be hidden. Now you can select every software that you don’t need and your PC should immediatly feel lighter. But instead of just preventing some programs from starting you should also uninstall them entirely if you have not used them in a while.

Uninstalling Programs

The longer you keep your PC around, the more programs you will collect over time. Some of these will be forgotten and take away precious space on your hard drive.

If you head to “Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features” you will find all installed programs listed there.

We recommend you to sort those programs by date. This makes it easy to see which programs were installed first. If you are certain that you will not need these you should delete them. If you click on the listed program there should be a pop up where u can press “Uninstall”. Afterwards you can just follow the instructions. Make sure to keep an eye on the remaining software so it always stays relevant.

Updating Drivers

For a smooth performance we recommend you to always update your drivers to the latest version. Especially the Graphics Card should always contain the latest drivers. You should also keep the operating system and the associated programs up to date with the Windows Updater.
