Mikyx announces he hasn’t found a team for the 2022 season due to high buy-out

Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle stated on Twitter that he failed to secure a spot on an LEC starting roster for the 2022 Spring Split. The Slovenian support player will remain under G2’s contract either until it expires or a team decides to buy out the remaining amount.

G2 CEO Carlos “Ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago went to Twitter as well to respond to Mikyx’s announcement. As he did for former ADC Rekkles, Ocelote claimed that he lowered the support player’s buyout price throughout the course of the offseason. Mikyx began the offseason with 1.5 million euro buyout, which was reduced to 500K, and finally 250K.

The team owner claimed that Mikyx received interest from over five teams, though he did not express reciprocate this interest or hear offers. Mikyx responded, alleging that these offers and interest were not communicated to him, only spiraling this Twitter debate further.

Carlos accused his former playing of lying, stating that all potential teams inquiring about acquiring Mikyx were given to his Agent. The Agent reportedly replied on Mikyx’s behalf that he had no interest in the given list of teams. Ocelote defended his statements on Twitter, claiming that team owners often ‘shy away’ from Twitter disputes given that the public tends to favor to side of the player, though seeks to ‘lay the truth without hesitating.’

As it stands now, Mikyx will join the growing list of players from 2021 that will remain teamless going into the upcoming LEC season. While G2 hopes to find a new home for its longtime support player in Summer, nothing is guaranteed.
