Misfits remain on top & can G2 Esports fix their issues? – LEC Week 3 Recap
The third week of the LEC is over and we’ve got Fnatic and Rogue nestling in at a shared second place, while Misfits remain on the top of the league.
Misfits maintain their form
Fans of Misfits Gaming must be loving what they’re seeing right now, as their team currently sits on top of the LEC after three weekends of play. While they didn’t face the strongest opponents in week 3 (they faced Excel and Schalke 04 respectively on Saturday and Sunday), they already proved they can hang with the best of them and take wins over weaker opponents. Something a lot of other teams are seemingly having a lot more trouble with.
Both their wins were incredibly dominant as well, with the entire team playing on a completely new level. Where Vetheo and Razork did the heavy lifting in the first week, slowly but surely HiRit, Kobbe and Vander got more and more involved. Especially HiRit is reaching a completely new level of play, as he seemingly is having the time of his life on picks such as Gwen and Viego. One has to wonder when these picks are going to be taken away from him.
What a great weekend by us, 2-0 again
I like fighting enemy top and brokenblade played really good 🙂

It’ll be interesting to see how far Misfits Gaming will go. In week 4 they’ll be tested to the absolute maximum, as they’re facing MAD Lions and G2 Esports. However, both teams are out of form and haven’t shown their usual dominance. If Misfits Gaming continue their winning ways, both MAD and G2 Esports will have a lot to worry about, especially with playoffs in the back of their minds.
Fnatic and Rogue move to second place
When it came to Fnatic, most people were already surprised by how well they were clicking in week 2 when they beat both up-and-comers Vitality as Excel. Bwipo’s role swap to jungle has been quite successful so far and he’s proven a lot of doubters wrong. Where most people already knew that Upset and Hylissang are a dynamic and deathly duo, teams now also have Nisqy to worry about, who’s been playing out of his mind. With a young and hungry top laner such as Adam to round things out, this Fnatic team is scary. Their win over G2 Esports proves they’re here to compete at the highest level.

Rogue had a decent start after week 1 and 2, only losing out to Fnatic and G2 Esports previously. They went on to defeat Schalke 04 and Astralis in what were arguably expected victories for the squad. Jungler Inspired played a big role in both of their wins, a trend we’ve seen in previous weeks as well. Rogue’s versatility and carry potential in all lanes also remains one of their biggest strengths.
G2 Esports falters, Vitality recover
G2 Esports isn’t doing so hot. To be fair, they’re still sitting in fourth place, tied up with the likes of MAD Lions and Team Vitality. After losing out to the latter in their first match of the weekend, with uncharacteristically weak performances from Caps and Jankos as the biggest concerns, they also lost out to Fnatic in their grudge match.
Veteran top laner Wunder struggled against young and fresh Adam and Nisqy kept up his strong performances in the mid lane. The most important point of focus might be the bot lane however, as Rekkles has seemingly underperformed twice this weekend on an unexpected and inexperienced Jinx pick, as well as his trusty Jhin. G2 Esports do seem rather disconnected at times but with 5 weeks left to go, they should be able to iron out the kinks.
Thanks for all the supportive messages and also thanks for everyone who is passionate enough about G2 to flame us in defeat.
We all just want to see G2 winning and we keep working towards it.
I will ofc keep on memeing because we are clowns together on twitter 🤡🤡🤡

Vitality on the other hand seem to have found their footing as they beat out both G2 Esports and MAD Lions. Bot laner Crownshot remains one of their biggest carries and even went deathless the entire weekend on Aphelios and Varus respectively. With SLT playing for the team through top lane, Vitality has found their identity through LIDER, Crownshot and Selfmade and it’ll be interesting to see how they manage those personalities going forward. Expectations are rising.
Top six, bottom four
After three weeks, it does seem like there’s a sizable skill and performance gap between the top six teams in the LEC and the bottom four. While SK Gaming picked up their first victory of the Split, their play has been far from stellar and they look unlikely to recover before the end of the split. The same goes for Astralis (despite their strong start to the season), Excel and Schalke 04. Aside from Astralis, all teams went through big changes and it’s not difficult to see they didn’t turn out exactly the way they planned them to.
